Omar’s Full Bio

Omar Morales is a Project Director as well as the founder of The Omar Project — a website dedicated to the art (and science) of project management.

Over the last decade, his work has taken him to new cities, new states and even new countries. From the United States to Singapore to Malaysia, Omar has managed projects not just in the millions, but in the billions.

Originally from Lakewood, NJ, Omar discovered a passion for math and science early on. Coupled with growing up in a Honduran household, where both Spanish and English were spoken, the foundation for Omar’s future in project management on an international scale was already being shaped.

He graduated from Penn State in 2008 with a degree in mechanical engineering and accepted a job offer that took him to New Orleans. “The Big Easy” would become his home for the next 10 years where Omar grew not only professionally but personally.

Originally a rotating equipment engineer, he was responsible for all the moving parts of the refinery— literally. Dealing with explosive compounds on a daily basis required an extreme kind of precision, where being off by even just 1/1000 of an inch could mean disaster.

Having this kind of technical expertise made Omar the perfect candidate to transition into project management, which he did in 2010. After tackling a number of smaller projects, Omar moved to the upstream oil and gas business and was selected as the deputy project manager for some of the world's largest offshore oil and gas platforms. He left Shell having managed over a half-billion dollars worth of engineering, equipment, and construction scope. He is now the director of Project Management for Advano, a silicon battery start-up based in New Orleans, LA, which is revolutionizing the battery industry.
